CLG:  Strawberries! Tuesday Reminder - Market Closes Tonight after 10pm.

Hello friends!

There’s still time to place your order for pickup this Friday, May 11th.

Strawberries! Since we don’t currently have a Grower that produces Strawberries, I have arranged to have my friend, Brian, pick Strawberries for us from Goodson Farm in Damascus, Arkansas. He will pick them Friday morning and have them at market Friday afternoon. They will be $5 per Quart, and $20 per gallon. To get an idea of how many he should pick, please add a note to your order, or text me at 501-339-1039.

The market closes TONIGHT after 10pm, maybe even midnight! Come early on Friday for the best selection from the Extras table. See you Friday!

Miami County Locally Grown:  Congratulations to our youngest vendor!

Thanks to Bair Trax Dairy for sharing their great news about son Michael at this year’s
Ohio State FFA Convention!

Known to our market customers for his FFA project, Michael’s Poultry Pastured, Michael came away a big winner, and justifiably so!

Here’s the info mom Annette shared… "Michael has been working hard the last 2 years towards earning state agricultural proficiencies  through Miami East FFA.
He finally did it!  At this year’s Ohio State FFA convention, he won the following FFA Proficiency Awards:

1st in Organic
2nd in Diversified Livestock
2nd in Poultry

Thank you everyone supporting Michael and Michael’s Pastured Poultry.  He’s continuing to work towards a National proficiency next year!"

Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  Don't Forget to Place Your Order!

Manchester Locally Grown market

We always have a few new farmers, waiting their turn to join our market and offer their wonderful products to all our customers. In order to add more farmers, we feel it would be best to grow our customer base a bit. We want to be able to offer you and your friends some new local farm products.

The farmers and market managers would really appreciate your efforts to help spread the word about our fantastic market. What a great local resource for fresh, local farm products. Please pick up a few business cards to hand out to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Advertising is very expensive, and we want to use our slim market funds in a responsible manner.

Good evening!

This is just a friendly reminder to place your order online by 10 pm tomorrow evening. It seems as though every week, someone says, “I meant to order last week, but forgot till about 9:45.”

Well, that’s fine, for two reasons:
1. Every single order placed before I close the market will be filled, unless the farmers run out of some items; and

2. I never close the market at 10:00 sharp. It just doesn’t happen (and to those who know me, that comes as no surprise.) It may be closer to midnight before it gets turned off. However, it’s better not to put off ordering, because some items may be sold out.

Lastly, remember to hit that last “submit” button. I really dislike it when someone gets to market, only to find no order in their name because they didn’t hit the last button. When your order is placed, you will receive an email confirmation. If for any reason you fail to receive it, please contact Linda as soon as you realize it’s missing.

Also please go to our Facebook page & like, comment, and share this week’s post. Facebook isn’t allowing me to post on multiple sites, or post multiple photos. So please help us spread the word

See you on Thursday!

Blessings,
Michael & Linda

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  This week on The Cumming Harvest

This Week

Market opens at 10AM

The Cumming Harvest would not be year-round market that it is without farms like Phoenix Gardens. In 2005, Phoenix Gardens began as a hobby farm for Brennan and Gwendolyn Washington, originally of New York; soon however, their passion for providing their community with good food led them make Phoenix Gardens into a full-fledged urban farm. Today, their Certified Naturally Grown farm is situated on 2.5 acres in Lawrenceville and is a blend of traditional row crops, raised beds and hoop houses. They, along with their son, run it year- round.
But Gwendolyn and Brennan aren’t farmers only. Over the years the Washingtons have put themselves at the heart of the fight to create sustainable local food systems. Brennan founded the Georgia Farmers Market Association (of which The Cumming Harvest is a member), and has sat on the board of Georgia Organics, Southern SARE and the Georgia Food Policy Council. Recently, Brennan was named to the 2018 BALLE Local Economy Fellowship, a group of innovators across America and Canada working to build local economies that work for all.
Tragically, in 2015, Gwendolyn and Brennan suffered a devastating fire that led them to stop operations for 18 months. But Phoenix Gardens has truly lived up to its name, rising from the ashes reborn, renewed, and very much alive. Currently, Phoenix Gardens is working on Organic certification and is expanding into the realm of jams, jellies and pickles. They have also recently added a flock of Araucana chickens who lay the most beautiful blue eggs.
Please come on out on Saturday to meet Gwendolyn, who will be our Farmer of the Week. You won’t be sorry that you did!

ON THE MARKET:

Sugar snap peas and summer squash— need I say more?
