1/4 teaspoon rice vinegar
2 teaspoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons lime juice
2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger

2 bunches of tat-soi

Sesame oil

1-2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds

In a small bowl whisk all ingredients from soy sauce through cayenne pepper.

Market News

Hello!

We are heading into our winter season – although it is hard to tell from the beautiful sunny warm days we are having. The Holidays are fast approaching, and we wanted to let you know our plans!

This year we are hosting a “Sock Drive” for Nashville Rescue Mission. Good clean socks are one of the most requested items for donation at homeless shelters. This year we ask that when you pick up your order to please bring us a pair of good, warm, cozy socks – either new or only slightly used. We will deliver them before Christmas to The Nashville Rescue Mission. We have such a large, generous, community of customers, and we want to be able to share all that love with those in need, so please help us out and make sure to donate a pair (or more!) of socks! Thank you ahead of time!

Our last delivery before Christmas will be on Wednesday, December 20th. We will not be delivering Wednesday December 27th or January 3rd. We will resume delivery on Wednesday, January 10th.

Thanks for all your support!

See you Tuesday!!
John and Tallahassee

Market News

The Athens Christmas parade will be held this Thursday night, and it will be impossible to get through downtown. Plan your travel accordingly! We do not open until 4:30, but we will start filling orders earlier if the growers have all arrived and unloaded on time. If you’re coming late in the evening, be sure to give downtown a wide berth!

This is the time for holiday artisan markets, and you can find something going on pretty much every day for the next three weeks. The Indie South fair happened this weekend, and I strolled through the booths for several lovely hours yesterday, getting ideas for people on my list. I like to highlight some of my favorite markets here in our newsletter and on our Facebook page, because there are just too many to list all of them. However, the Flagpole has done a great job assembling them all into a nice descriptive list. They’ve got an online version here if you didn’t pick up the paper copy: http://flagpole.com/arts-culture/arts-culture-features/2017/11/29/holiday-market-roundup-4.

Looking ahead on the calendar, I expect ALG to remain open the week of Christmas and New Year’s. Some of our growers might take time off, but we’ll be here to serve those with items to sell and you who wish to buy them.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

Most other area markets are starting to close down for the season or move to winter hours. The Athens Farmers Market is still open on Saturdays at Bishop Park. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market is up and running, Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, and you can find out more here: http://www.athenslandtrust.org/west-broad-farmers-market/. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running on winter hours now on Saturdays from 1-4pm. Folks to the east can check out the Hartwell Farmers Market, which starts bright and early on Saturday morning from 7am to noon, and Tuesday afternoons from noon to 4pm. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
