Market News

Hello!

It’s lettuce week, ya’ll! We’ve got yummy varieties for you this week, so enjoy the warming weather and eat salad! Even a delicious iceberg type – the real deal and so much better than you can get in a grocery store!

We also have lots of herb plants left – beautiful basil plants, which you can never have enough of, and some new dill, cilantro and rosemary!

The Bloomy Rind is off this week. Meanwhile, please support our other vendors! We are thankful to have them around!

This week we plan on being on the grass down at the parking lot. We are really thankful to Trinity Presbyterian Church for allowing us to set up on their property, going on 10 years now! We are ever appreciative of their support.

We really look forward to seeing you!

Thanks for your support, and we will see you on Wednesday!

John and Tally

Recipes

Sweet Potato and Avocado Green Salad

A simple and satisfying salad that uses up our delicious produce!

SWEET POTATO
1 large or 2 small organic sweet potatoes (~200 g), skin on, halved then sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
1 Tbsp (15 ml) avocado or coconut oil (or water)
Pinch sea salt

DRESSING
1/4 cup (60 g) tahini (sesame seed paste)
2 Tbsp (30 ml) lemon juice
1 Tbsp (15 ml) maple syrup (omit if you prefer a less sweet dressing)
Pinch sea salt
Water to thin (4-6 Tbsp)

SALAD
5 cups greens of choice
1 ripe avocado, cubed
optional: 2 Tbsp hemp seeds

Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add sweet potatoes, toss in a bit of oil (or water) and salt, and spread into an even layer.
Bake 15 minutes. Then flip/toss to ensure even baking. Bake 5-10 minutes more or until tender and golden brown.
In the meantime, prepare dressing by adding tahini, lemon juice, maple syrup, and salt to a small mixing bowl. Whisk to combine. Then add water a little at a time until a semi-thick, pourable dressing is achieved.
Taste and adjust flavor as needed, adding more lemon for acidity, salt for saltiness, or maple syrup for sweetness. Set aside.
Assemble salad by adding greens to a serving bowl and topping with roasted sweet potato and avocado. Sprinkle on hemp seeds (optional), and serve with dressing.
Leftovers keep (stored separately) in the refrigerator up to 3 days. Dressing will stay for 5-7 days.

CLG:  NEW GROWER! Opening Bell: Strawberries, Honey, Rice, Salad Mix!

Good afternoon!
We have a new Grower! Please take a look at Ralston Family Farm under the OUR GROWERS tab. They produce several varieties of rice in nearby Atkins, Arkansas. They have listed rice in 24 ounce bags for small families, and in 25 pound buckets for larger families. Search keyword “rice” to see their listings. Welcome!

Strawberries! Since we don’t currently have a Grower that produces Strawberries, I have arranged to have my friend, Brian, pick Strawberries for us from Goodson Farm in Damascus, Arkansas. He will pick them Friday morning and have them at market Friday afternoon. They will be $5 per Quart, and $20 per gallon. To get an idea of how many he should pick, please add a note to your order, or text me at 501-339-1039.

As you plan your garden, please remember to bring back your plant containers and pots to the market. We will reuse them.

Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. Over 600 items available now!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Market News

Good morning!

The market is open and ready for your orders this week! I know that some seasonal markets opened yesterday and that’s great! Two weekly chances to buy local instead of going to a chain that sells from larger corporations. We work hard for you year-round and appreciate the support!

First, home delivery won’t be available for the short-term. I apologize for this inconvenience!

Now, on to the really yummy part of the letter:

The Krafty Kupboard is fully stocked with all of your favorite foods and Cilantro-Lime Black Bean Hummus is BACK! She also has several new items this week..
Taco Seasoning
Sweet Beet Hummus
Spicy Cornbread Mix
Cornmeal Breading
Buckwheat Pancake Mix

Organic, all-natural, wheat and gluten-free available!

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has all sorts of beauties for your mother this Mother’s Day. We have lots of perennials for her sunny or shady garden, but we also know that some mothers don’t enjoy gardening (although we don’t really understand that… lol). Maybe your mom has a nice herb garden that could use a few of our additions, or maybe she’d enjoy snipping a fresh potted herb to enhance her culinary creation. Possibly she’d like to add a couple of groundcovers, ferns, or azaleas in the woodland around her home.

Maybe your mom enjoys houseplants more than garden plants. We have blooming pink “holiday” cacti (AKA Christmas cacti, but in bloom now), and just four very special African violets in full bloom. I have given good reliable instructions in the descriptions to keep both of these in extended bloom, and will always be glad to answer questions via email. I will be glad to wrap the pots of both of these, for a charming Mother’s Day gift.

Surely your mom would enjoy our new Spring Garden Bouquets. These are small bouquets, about a foot from tabletop to tallest bloom, and will be a delightful addition to any spring dining table or end table. I have vases in several colors, so give me an idea of your preference in the comments when you order.

And if you really can’t choose the perfect gift for your mom this Mother’s Day, please consider giving her a gift certificate from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse, so that she can select the plants that will best suit her situation.

One last thing: I’m going to revise my advice about tomato and pepper plants. Our recent nights in the 30’s and low 40’s have kept our garden soil unseasonably cool. The summer vegetables will do much better if you wait to set them out after Mother’s Day. The days are very pretty, but the nights have not been. I have both tomatoes and vegetables available this week, but will be glad to hold plants for you and deliver in a couple weeks. Place your order anytime, and specify a delivery date, to reserve your choice of tomato varieties and green bell peppers.

A huge thank you to Michael Raines of Frontier Family Farms for taking the wheel of the pickup while we work out some kinks! Also, thank you to Linda Reed of Dogwood Valley Greenhouse for staying and keeping Michael straight ;). Much love to both of you!

Flying S Farms has added radishes! YAY!! So happy to have those!

Homestead Manor Farm has several pounds of collard greens available along with fresh-cut thyme and oregano.

Maura at Double Star Bar Farms reminded me of the Boro Art and Craft Festival this coming Saturday (on the square) 8 am to 3 pm! Check it out!!

Botanical Harmony Farm has restocked Eucalyptus Mint Sea Salt and Rosemary, Nettle & Mint Sea Salt Soap bars!

Happy Spring!
