Independence,VA:  Market is OPEN for Feb. 21st pickup!

Good evening!

It’s 60 degrees and the birds are chirping, Spring really is almost here and I couldn’t be more excited! Our May 11th opening day of the outdoor market will be here before we know it!

We have launched a Go Fund Me! page for the market. We love what we do here in the community and with no large grants this year, we could use some help! Click on the link below if you are able to give and please share with family and friends that may also want to send some love our way! We’ll also be reaching out on Facebook.

To Donate: IFM Go Fund ME!.

To Shop: Independence Farmers Market.

Upcoming Events:

Plan to join us THIS Saturday February 17, 9 am to noon for a hands on planning workshop to maximize your vegetable production for all skill levels at the Grayson LandCare/IFM office at 108 Courthouse Street. We’ll talk about planting dates, spacing, interplanting and succession plantings as well as organic pest and disease control. Using information from the best national and local gardeners you’ll learn to apply these techniques to a single raised bed or a full sized market garden. Hope to see you then! The cost is $10 and includes light snacks and the class is limited to 30 people. Please email Michelle Pridgen at independencefarmersmarket@gmail.com to register.

Have you thought about becoming a vendor at the Farmers Market? Here’s your chance to join returning vendors and find out about the coming season and enjoy a potluck lunch on Friday, April 6th from 10am-2pm at the Grayson Landcare office. Check out our Facebook event page for more information.

Common Ground Talks will be hosting a lecture on carbon fees and dividends, a policy proposal to account for the burning of fossil fuels. This free event will take place THIS Sunday, February 18th, at the Galax Public Library at 5:30. All are welcome.

Thank you for supporting the Independence Farmers Market!

This has been a rough winter! Keep sickness at bay with Southern Essential’s Anti-Bacterial Essential Oil Blend. This blend of highly effective essential oils helps to reduce and kill bacteria and germs that can cause sickness. Try a few drops in your cleaning water, washer or dishwasher to boost the cleaning power and eliminate odors. Or use a few drops on your homes’ heating and air conditioning filter to help reduce airborne bacteria, or use in a room diffuser for a single room effect.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meadow Valley Farm cheese is back on the market. Choose from Cheddar, Sharp Cheddar, Havarti, Baby Swiss, Pepper Jack, and more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Make hamburger night easy with Indian Creek Angus’ hamburger patties. Each patty is 5.5 oz and makes a most delicious burger, especially when topped with Simply Southard’s Hot and Sweet Pickled Jalapenos. Or if you’re in the mood for something different, make lamb burgers with Bramberi Farms’ ground lamb, topped with arugula from Heirloom Gardens, and served with Cultured Traditions’ Garlic Dill pickles on the side. Either way, you can’t go wrong!

HomeSpun Baking Company is on vacation this week but will return soon with their gluten-free bakery goods.
