Market News

This rainy weather is really getting me in the mood to get out and garden. Not in the rain, no, but it’s the perfect weather for going through my favorite seed catalogs, organizing my tools, and getting everything ready for when the sun shows up and warms things up again. I can’t wait! In the meantime, our farmers have got you covered, with leafy greens from their outdoor beds and warmer weather crops coming out of their hoop houses.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

Most other area markets are closed down for the season or have moved to winter hours. The Athens Farmers Market has closed for the season. They’ll return in April, and you can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market is closed for the season, and you can watch for their return on their website here: http://www.athenslandtrust.org/west-broad-farmers-market/. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running on winter hours now on Saturdays from 1-4pm. Folks to the east can check out the Hartwell Farmers Market, which starts bright and early on Saturday morning from 7am to noon, and Tuesday afternoons from noon to 4pm. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Greener Acres Farm:  Request For Testimonials/Reviews

As we are heading into a new growing season and will be soon be lacing up our shoelaces and hitting the pavement to market our Online Farm Market, we would like to get some reviews from our current customers.

We are looking for a few honest quotes from you that we can use in our advertising. We want you to think as if you were talking to someone who is not familiar with a market like ours. What do you think would be important for them to know? What is something that you think would sway someone to become a new customer? What is something unique or special that we do? What keeps you coming back to our market? Anything you can think of…

We may identify your quote simply with your initials and town name, or they can be completely anonymous if you wish.

We greatly appreciate your help with this marketing endeavor and will credit your account with $2.00 for your response.

Thank you in advance,
Cathie

CLG:  Opening Bell: Micro-Greens, Cabbage, Carrots!

Good afternoon!

We’re back! Lots of super-fresh, picked-for-you products available now. So much great food being produced by local people, and enjoyed by local people.

All this warm weather has me thinking about spring, so I started over 400 seeds on Saturday! In 2 shorts months, they’ll be ready to be planted out in the garden to produce wonderfully fresh and organic tomatoes and peppers. I’m sure I’ll have some extras to list in March.

Cadron Valley Acres has listed several varieties of MICROGREENS! Get some for salads or sandwiches.

Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. Over 600 items available now!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Please check your email a few minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!
Have a great week!

Dawson Local Harvest:  MY DAILY BREAD Moves To LEILANI'S!

Dawson Local Harvest for February 2nd

MY DAILY BREAD Moves To LEILANI’s!

HI EVERYBODY!

Remember when I said we had BIG NEWS about a month ago? And then we left you wondering when you heard nothing more? Well, after a few snags, here it is: MY DAILY BREAD has moved to LEILANI’S!

Dabrielle and Bruce Wills started MY DAILY BREAD over 15 years ago but at well past retirement age it simply became too difficult for them to keep up with. They were going to close down, but when we at LEILANI’S heard of this we thought their Bakery was far too good to lose as an all-natural resource for the LocallyGrown community. We made an offer, it was accepted, and here we are! The equipment has been moved, the Wills’ son Brandon has come over as Master Baker, a position he has held for several years now, and all the recipes are the same, so it’s the same great products, just prepared in a new, upgraded location.

So what does this mean for you as a customer? Well, first of all, you can still order the amazing Baked Goods you have come to rely on. Secondly, during Harvest pickup there will now be additional Bread, Cookies Dessert Breads, Bagels, and a lot more out on the Harvest tables for you to see and consider. And should you need a great side dish or appetizer you’ll see offerings like Greek Pasta Salad, Organic Veggie Cream Cheese Spread, and Hot Pepper Peach Cheese Logs in the Retail Cooler. You’ll also see the full range of handmade Jams, Jellies, and Preserves, many made with fresh-picked organic fruits. All in all it’s a big “get” for our Dawson Harvest customers, and we’re delighted that MY DAILY BREAD will continue to be with us for many years to come!

THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN!

REMEMBER! You can now order until Tuesday night at 9 pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 6 pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.

Best thoughts for you and yours this season!
