GFM :  Locally Grown

The saying is that local is better. There could not be more truth in that beautiful phrase, and can be found in Greeneville and Greene Counties, Oldest, Established farmer’s market, Greeneville Farmers Market. Nothing can be compared to enjoying fresh produce from a small, family farm, homemade goodies and home made crafts. Greeneville Farmers Market is located just off of the 11E by pass, under the livestock pavilion of the Greene County Fair Grounds every Saturday from 9 am until 1pm. Friends and Neighbors from all over Greene county and beyond meet at the fairgrounds and swap stories, laughs and enjoy the bounty of their local farmers and artisans. Seasonal produce, handmade crafts and gifts, local honey, baked goods, jams and jellies are only a taste of what can be found here. This market also also accepts SNAP, and our FRE$H SAVINGS TOKENS, will give you an extra $20 this year for FRESH FRUITS & VEGETABLES for every $20 you purchase in SNAP. Don’t forget the fun and festivities of the Events that the Greeneville Farmers Market host each year. One such event is the Rooted in Appalachian Road Show coming July 15, 9 am to 1 pm. There are also, monthly highlights, contests and special guest speakers, it’s the best thing to do on a Saturday morning. So, come meet your local farmers, crafters, Artisans and friends. Our season runs from May to October each year. You can also find us at www.greenevillefarmersmarket.com, www.gfm.locallygrown.net and on Face Book. Let us show you why we love our market and all the people that support it.

Honey Garlic Fried Chicken

Ingredients:
4-6 chicken breasts butterflied or cut in half, or pieces
Frying oil

Marinade:
2 Cups Honey
1 cup water
2 cloves fresh garlic

Breading:
2 cups Panko bread crumbs
2 cups bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
1 tb paprika
1 tb oregano

2 eggs (whisked well)
2 cups flour

Start by marinating chicken breasts with honey, water and garlic in a bag in the refrigerator for 4 hours (preferably overnight). Drain well and discard, then pat breasts dry. Keep cool while making breading. Heat oil to 375ºF. Starting with flour, douse the breasts and then move them to the egg mixture. Next, douse again in panko mixture. Once evenly coated, start to fry one or two breasts at a time until internal temperature reaches 165 and they are golden brown. Let cool and enjoy warm. Store in aluminum foil in fridge.

Goes great with Chardonnay and a freshly picked salad from your Greeneville Farmer’s Market!
