Independence,VA:  Online Market is OPEN for August 31 Pickup!

Hello everyone!

The last full month of Summer is already drawing to a close if you can believe it! Time to really take advantage of those late-season summer fruits and veggies and get canning (if that’s your thing). Otherwise, let our vendors do all that work for you and pick up your pickles, jams, jellies and salsas through the online market this week. Throw in a few loaves of baked-to-order bread and a dozen farm-fresh eggs to round out your grocery list.

Don’t forget to swing through the Market this Friday and check out Fiber Day to celebrate our farmers and fiber artists as they show off their wares just in time for the season to start growing cooler. Shop for knits, enjoy demonstrations and meet your local artisans face to face!

If you’d like to schedule a curbside pickup to conveniently have your box awaiting upon your arrival, please feel free to schedule a time using the Calendly link below. Otherwise, You can drop by and pick up your order inside the office any time on Wednesday August 24, between 4-6 pm.

Martin's Farmstand:  Sweet onions and Carrots

Below is an updated ‘in season now’ list from Martins Farmstand. We have lots of cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, beans, sweet onions, broccoli and so much more at the market now.
Today there is lots of corn available in small amounts or by the bagful ($20 per bag with 4-5 dozen per bag) and I have enough broccoli to sell some by the boxful. There are lots of little pickles and cucumbers. Carrots are getting nice and big. They are available with tops off by the lb or big 25lb bags. We are about half finished with the main onion harvest. The onion crop is good this year. Daniel

Grumpy Goat:  Weblog Entry

Well, another Michigan Fiber Festival is in the books. We chatted up the Pygora breed to lots of festival goers, sold some yarn, and took a couple workshops. Our two boys, who travelled up there in luxury in the Prius, did great. Mr Bingo, the wether, came away with reserve grand champion wether (aka 2nd place), and our buckling Buckley won grand champion Junior buck! To reward Mr Bingo, he got his first haircut today. I’m not so sure he appreciated it. He will head to his new home this Saturday up in Neptune. Besides that we are trying to get a lot of natural dying done in preparation for the Wool zgathering coming up in Yellow Springs!

As far as garden news… the greens are still on the fritz. Okra is finally going crazy with eggplants right behind them. There’s nothing new this week (though I finally turned on the ordering for some of the peppers and the red cabbage which you might have noticed were in the store. Place your orders or just stop in and shop Tuesday and Friday 2-6:30 at the farm and Saturday 8-12 at the Sidney Farmers Market!

Our Grower’s News:

WELCOME…Pennie’s Delights:
I have been making Homemade Sweets and Treats for over 20 plus years, I had the pleasure of sharing my baked good with family and friends. I started while I was in grade school, and it has always been my passion. But now I would love to share them with everyone I come in contact with. I am single mother with 2 grown kids, now that they are grown, I would love to focus on my business I have always wanted..

WELCOME….Sweet Beets Farm: we are a small family farm that believes in clean food, healing the land and supporting the community. Our plants/soil enjoy worm and tea composts, no tilling, crop rotation, and intercropping. We do not use any artificial chemicals to fertilize the soil nor to manage pests. This is a labor intensive method, intended to heal the soil, while also growing nutrient-dense food. These along with some of our other farming practices are commonly referred to as regenerative farming.
Another aspect of regenerative farming, is having diversity within the garden beds. This is intended to reduce the impact of garden pests.
We like variety in our cooking and to taste the flavors from around the world on our plates. No surprise that the gardens grow just those things, full of variety.

We also have Sweet Beets Naturals
Using natural materials, we handcraft beautiful and playful pieces, meant to inspire happiness and appreciation for life. Ropes and jump ropes are custom orders allow 1-6 weeks for custom orders
