Cedar Seeder Wellness Farm to the Rescue!

Last year George Jones of Cedar Seeder Wellness Farm and I spoke about adding his Farm as a Market location. Due to various projects that needed completion, the decision to add the Farm to Heirloom Living Market locations was put on hold. Knowing our re-location quandary, George has offered to allow us to set up shop at the Farm. He has made some changes to one of his outbuildings and I will be going over there on Wednesday to meet with him and hopefully finalize plans to move Market this Saturday.

That is the good news! It is a solution that will solve our “Market Hub” issues; however, it will be a bit far for Crossfit Ozone (Lawrenceville Market Members)!

Please know that I appreciate the support that the faithful Members of this Market have given over the last 3 years. The friendships that have been formed are treasured and I pray will continue! Right now, there is no other solution. I will keep looking for a place in Lawrenceville and re-open a pickup location when (and if) I can find an appropriate place. Since it will only necessitate 4 hours a week and no storage for a fridge and freezer, it may be that it will be easier to find a place in Lawrenceville. In the meantime, I ask for your patience and invite you to come to pickup at Cedar Seeder Wellness Farm starting next week.

The information for the new location is:

Cedar Seeder Wellness Farm
4108 Anderson Livsey Lane
Snellville, GA 30039

The other option that I can offer you is ordering from either of Nora Lea’s Markets, Buford Locally Grown or Suwanee Locally Grown Market. Obviously, the names of the Markets indicate their locations! Pickup is on Tuesday at Buford and Thursday at Suwanee and Nora has some of the same Farmers, Vendors and Artisans that we have on our Market: Cedar Rock Dairy (Raw Cow Milk and Eggs), Little Tots Estate (Raw Goat Milk and Eggs), My Daily Bread (Organic Bakery items), Fry Farm (Veggies) You can find a link to Nora’s Markets by clicking either of the links below:

Take me to Buford Locally Grown Market.

Take me to Suwanee Locally Grown Market.

This week’s Market orders a pitifully small and we are not even 1/3 of the way to meeting minimum as I write this. The last few weeks have been slow also and I do not know if it is because of the coming changes, people being on vacation or general disinterest in continuing. Our Farmers must have a minimum amount of orders for it to be worth stopping activities at their Farms to package, sort, deliver goods to the Market. Truthfully, we have been pushing the envelope on this for a while and I applaud the Farmers for their passion and dedication and continuation of deliveries!

If you have not ordered, please get your order in by 8:00pm this evening! Remember Milk Orders must be in by 2:00pm! I hope to see you this week at Market pickup It will be our final week at our present location.

HELP!

Again, I am asking for Volunteers for helping pack up and load the Market this Saturday. We will meet at 1:15 at the Market and it should take no more than a couple/three hours to get it all done. George of Cedar Seeder Wellness Farm has generously volunteered his truck and trailer! We do need another truck to transport the 6 tables to Sarah’s home which is about 8 minutes east on 316! Please contact me by phone at 404-432-4337. We CANNOT do this by ourselves!

We appreciate your support of our LOCAL Farmers and of the Market! Please SHARE the Market with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers!

Champaign, OH:  Suddenly, It's Monday

Your market manager is making her way back to realty!

I am so sorry that the market opened, late, this weekend! I was secluded in a lovely lake house in North Carolina, with the most epic of high school reunions!

I had zero internet service, and while at first, I freaked out, but then I gave in, and lived and laughed and loved my favorite people who were the first loves of my life!!

It has been so long since I have let myself go be free, away, on vacation!

So, while I hope you all understand, this volunteer market manager had the time of her life!

Go, order, the seasonal items are rockin!

XOXO
Pam

Market News

This week marks the equinox and the first official day of Summer. Looks like it’ll be a beautiful start to it too, weather-wise. The days won’t get too hot, and we’ll be getting plenty of rain. The summer veggies love this weather (I finally got my own tomato plants caged up today, and they’re seeming pretty happy) and even the leafy greens are able to keep on producing. I know it’ll never happen, but I wouldn’t mind if the rest of the summer stayed just like this.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

The Athens Farmers Market is open on Saturdays at Bishop Park and Wednesday afternoons downtown at Creature Comforts. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market is up and running, Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, and you can find out more here: http://www.athenslandtrust.org/west-broad-farmers-market/. The Oconee County Farms Market is open on Saturdays in Watkinsville. Their website is www.oconeefarmersmarket.org. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running on Saturdays from 9-12. Folks to the east can check out the Hartwell Farmers Market, which starts bright and early on Saturday morning from 7am to noon, and Tuesday afternoons from noon to 4pm. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
