Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  A Few New Items This Week

Ordering will be open till Tuesday evening at 10 pm. Please share this newsletter with a friend and invite them to place an order!

I’ve been busy cleaning up and repairing the high tunnels, in preparation for the colder weather headed our way. Have you seen an all-black wooly bear? He foretells a cold, bleak winter ahead. But as a result of all this outside busy-ness, my business of newsletter prep has suffered. Sorry. I’m sure I’ve missed some new items this week, as well as returning ones. Look the lists over carefully to catch them all. As always, feel free to place a second order, which will be combined with your first one at checkout by the software. Here are a few new items:

(Top) African violets from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse, Arugula and Bok Choy from Frontier Family Farm,
(2nd Row) Beef 30 lb Deal and Ground Beef Patties from Triple T Cattle Farms, Bottle of Herb (several different ones available) from Cheryl’s Neighborhood Garden.
(3rd Row) Note Cards from Valley View Farm & Garden, Whole Frozen Broiler from Wayne Diller, Christmas Kissing Ball from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse.
(4th Row) Coffee Biscotti Cookies from Meriwether Bakes, CSA Weekly Share and Pumpkin Butter from Country Road Homestead.

Siloam Springs, AR:  The Online Market is Open & Kids Day THIS Saturday!

Thank you to everyone who came out to Homegrown Festival this past weekend! This week is our LAST in-person market in Memorial Park. After this weekend, we WILL continue the online market, AND we are going to be starting the brand-new Winter Market at the Moss House (next door to Memorial Park). From now until Thursday check out the great selection of farm fresh produce, meats, baked goods and artisan crafts that our vendors have for you!

This Saturday is our final Kids Day of the season! The Market is open 8am-12pm, with Kids Day from 9am-12pm.
Be sure to “RSVP” those kiddos for the 2022 POP Club!

What does Kids Day look like this year?
1. We brought back the 2 Bite Club! We will be preparing 2 Bite Club samples for each kiddo to taste a different fruit, veggie, or recipe each month, purchased straight from our SSFM Farmers.
2. Each month your kiddos will receive POP tokens to spend with our farmers on veggies and fruits!
3. We will have local non-profits set up with additional activities, just for kids.
4. This will continue to be a FREE and fun event brought to you by Simmons Foods and Arvest Bank!

To participate in this year’s POP Club all you need to do is login to your Locally Grown account (https://siloamsprings.locallygrown.net), click on the Kids Day tab, and add a “Kids Day RSVP” for each participating child to your cart, and check out! This will help us know how many kiddos plan to stop by during Kids Day (please remember that the program is set up for ages 3-12). Don’t forget, you’ll have to “RSVP” each month.

When you arrive at the market on Kids Day, head straight to the Outdoor Farmers Market Hub located in the Memorial Park concession stand from 9am-12pm to participate in POP Club activities. 2 Bite Club, POP tokens pick up, and all other information will be located at the concession stand.Your kiddos will earn their $2 tokens each Kids Day, then be able to shop the Outdoor Market, using their money to purchase fruits, vegetables, or a plant that produces fruit or vegetables. When you pick up your kits, be sure to peruse the market and check out the young entrepreneur Kids Day booths as well!

Thanks to our Kids Day Sponsor Simmons Foods and Arvest Bank of Siloam Springs!

The Power of Produce (POP) Club provides a fun opportunity for children to engage in the local food system through conversations directly with farmers, educational games and demonstrations, and exposure to new fruits and vegetables. In addition to participating in educational activities, POP Club kids receive POP Club tokens to spend at the market, allowing them to make their own shopping decisions at the market. This program is set-up for ages 3-12.

Lathemtown Farm Fresh Market:  This Week at the Market

Feel that crisp fall air? Time for stews, soups, roasts, spiced baked goods, and pumpkin everything! I’ve added our Pumpkin Roll from previous years, and Maple Walnut Scones – big fall hits! We’re doing 3 soups each week now – one of which is PUMPKIN!
Hens are still slow, but I’ve upped their protein intake to get them back to producing a bit more.
If you have a chance, please let me know if you would like to see a particular item offered. I am considering offering a selection of organic baby food. My granddaughter has begun eating it and I will be making her some wanted to gauge interest in the market, too.
My daughter’s wedding was beautiful and all went perfectly. We are all trying to settle down into a new “normal” going forward. Thanks again for everyone’s continued prayers for our family as we are still navigating through our loss as well.

Blessings to you all!
