NashPhilly: Warm yourself with our new Soup; New England Clam Chowder (find in Soups) – creamy savory, rich and velvety is how I would describe this when you taste it. I add some herbs (thyme and parley) to give it little bit more depth of flavor. Sold in 32oz quart containers.

Also this week Beef and Cheese Lasagna Single Portion
Classic lasagna with beef. 3 layers of robust roasted garlic red sauce, and smothered with mozzarella, parmesan, and ricotta cheeses. Infused with Italian herbs such as basil, rosemary, oregano, and parsley. These are in a 9in by 6in by 2in deep pan. Can feed one very hungry person or would be perfect for two people with a side salad or soup. The pasta noodles and beef are all fully cooked, will require additional baking at home!

Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken. Single Portion
It’s a roasted garlic and parmesan cream sauce. I add some Italian herbs to finish the pasta like parsley, rosemary, and oregano. The chicken is seared golden brown + delicious and will be sliced and put on top. Single individual portion, but it could probably feed two. I use 8 oz of noodles per order. I recommend you reheat on the stove top with 1/4-1/2cup of heavy cream, little salt and cracked black pepper to have the the best results.

GROWER & MARKET NOTES

YUMMY ANNOUNCEMENT!

One of the privileges our business license gives us is that we can purchase things for resale. As a direct farm to customer business we’ve never considered it till recently after Viki Richter (Richter Farms) connected us to a resource that sometimes offers bulk fresh organic foods. So we’ve taken the plunge and are listing organic beets and organic cabbage this week. These items will be sold cost plus 10%.

Food is such an integral part of our day to day lives that we take a lot for granted. We stumbled on some fascinating information this week about some of the culture and history of food in our country and how that affects what is on our grocery store shelves today. Rather than condense the podcast and omit valuable information we’re sharing a link to the whole enchalida. We advise that if the opening question and remarks are boring for you to hang in there as it gets far more interesting the longer these guys talk.

You may use THIS LINK to go directly to the youtube version of this podcast as shown. It is also available on Spotify. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did and come away with a new appreciation for small farms and small farmers trying to make a difference.

And by way of shameless promotion, the Chasing Leviathan podcast covers a wide range of topics doing nothing more than asking questions, listening and learning. Take a look. You may have even read a M@D newsletter produced in that studio.

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Martin's Farmstand:  Yes we are open on Columbus day.

Hello, Yes we are open on Columbus day. We had several frosts which trim the list back however there is still lots of food here including greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers, and lots of peppers. All the fall stuff like spinach, kale, leeks, celery, brussel sprouts etc. is in full swing. My Dad is steadily working at finishing the apple picking. We have over 100 bushels of nice organic heirloom apples in the coolers. We finished the sweet potato harvest last week with a yield of about 6,000 lbs which is right about average with what we normally expect in our somewhat short cooler summers. We plan to do the main irish potato harvest starting late next week and into the following week as weather permits. Potatoes store better if they can remain in the ground for 10 days or so after the vines die (the frost kills them) before they are dug. Enjoy the beauty of the fall color. Daniel
